Chorizo Update

I suppose I should write that update I was meaning to write a couple of days ago! I was busy rearranging my room, buying some stuff from IKEA and a few other stores so that my room would finally have space/places for all of my stuff. I bought a desk, a bookcase and I put up shelves and just made everything pretty and functional. It was a total mess before!

Anyhow! Last wednesday I had Lizzy, the 2 year old Saluki bitch until about 22.30 in the evening. At 22.20 I met Vladimir and Candy, to see how the dogs would react to each other... It went both bad and well. At first he couldn't stand the sight of her, but in a few minutes he could manage to function as long as she kept her distance (meaning about one and a half m). We'll see how things work out between them.

Candy stayed the night so the next day I had him all to myself, since Vladimir still has school. We went to a popular park called Slottskogen, because there is alot of dogs there - on leashes, mostly. I discovered that he has a problem with anything bigger then a french bulldog - but got along fine with anything smaller, he even played with a few dogs. And while he got aggressive towards a few big ones, he didn't stay agressive for that long.

We also made some climbing or maybe I should call it hiking. Well, climbing for the hotdog, but hiking/walking for me - hehe! so he could really use all of his body, jumping and running and climbing obstacles. We also went the next day, but brought Vladimir, and discovered that he does pretty good loose (with the leash still on, but dragging on the ground). He likes when I'm not holding the leash, because then he can pee obsessivly whenever he wants. It's important to just let him be a dog sometimes.

The second visit to the park we also trained some recall, using his favorite food of all. Pâté made from liver. Oh boy was he running! We also bought a leash that wasn't flexi, so that he didn't have to drag around a big clumbsy thing behind him. It's mostly for Vladimirs sake, because he worries alot. About him running away that is - if he's still on a leash all you have to do it step on it to make him halt.

This is me and candy the first day, having climbed/hiked all the way to the top!

There is definatly hope for this little sausage!

Edit: I just had to tell you this; After buying his leash we went to Liseberg to turn him over to Irina, and on the way let him walk with his leash dragging... He hid behind a bush and pooped on the leash (it was very loose stool, perhaps from all the treats) and also got it all over his bum! So we had to drag him along, found a little pond, dipped him in it and started drying him - but the pond was unfortunaly to muddy and he got even dirtier by that! so we had to buy water and rinse his bum and dry him a little bit so he wouldn't be a total mess! Unfortunaly for him the bought water was freezing cold! But we dried him off very quickly, so he wasn't suffering that long. Poor Candy!

El Chorizo Loco!

Today me and my boyfriend went over to his place to spend some time with Candy. We ended up spending time with both Candy and Vladimirs mother Irina over some nice sushi.

We're trying to learn Candy to "Come" (SW=Kom) and to make eye contact when his name is spoken. We first practised a little bit indoors so that he would know what we meant by "Kom", rewarding him with little slizes of ham. Then we went out doors and practised in an enclosed area without a leash. He responded well to that without any distraction (in this case peeing or sniffing). Then we took a little walk with the leash on and he responded very well to that too. Here he is running towards us, or should I say flying? :)
We're also using his obsessive peeing as a reward for eye contact. Which means: when he wants to pee, we stop him until he gives us eye contact and we release him with the words "Var så god/Varsågod" and since he's on a flexileash he also release the button at the same time.

The next time we practise we will use some "Leverpastej" (EN=Pâté made from liver) because that is his favorite in the whole wide world, hehe. To reward him properly when he's a bit distracted but listens anyway or comes really quick.

Some other good news is that he's now eating something other then kibble - although I'm not quite sure what. We'll have to work on that. He chews real bones (the little bones in the cow's tail) with a little meat still left on them. And he really gnaws. And then he is so happy and satisfied afterwards!

Sister Companionship

I made this today, inspired by Kali and Zoria. It has fewer details due to small size. This is the original:

A quick little update

is in order. My boyfriend and his mom decided that they should take Candy to the vet, and did so monday at noon. Well, me and my boyfriend did anyway. - Poor Candy, he was shaking so badly for being in the vets office that he more like vibrated then shook.

So they pulled out four teeth, emptied his anal glands, - which contained what was supposed to be fluid but was instead chunky and creamy so they had to rinse them, meaning I was right- looked at the video of his nose/throath attacks and diagnosed it with something that - due to his size - could be treated with one and a half pill. It was "Nose Mite" (SW=noskvalster). He's suffered from it for about five years and they hadn't even thought to ask about it before.

Anyway, I have convinced my boyfriend Candy should eat BARF/RMB - now it's up to him to convince his mother too! Although, his mother is already thinking in similar ways. :)
